Cameron and I made a New Year's Resolution to work on our emergency preparedness. So far, we have visited the LDS cannery every month doing dry pack, and have been double buying at the grocery store as much as we can afford. In April, to coincide with LDS General Conference, we decided to get together our 72 hour kits. Or, update the one lame one we had. I am quite pleased with the results.
Please, please, please, if you don't have yours already, get one now. I'll post links and my suggestions at the bottom of this post.
All our stuff from Wal-Mart.
We had a budget, and so we bought the things that were most important to us first. We had already bought the back pack (an internal-frame hiking pack) earlier this month. As we get more money, we will add to our kits, and eventually I will also have a hiking pack like Cam's.
Cameron said, "I think I could carry you, Corynn, in this thing." So we tried.
Food
I will make a list of the things we used.
Our Packs
We still would like more stuff, but it will come with time. For now, we are more prepared than most.
Our Food
Breakfasts and Snacks:
- Granola bars
- Apple sauce
- Raisins
- Peanut butter crackers
- Pudding packs
- Jolly Ranchers
- Animal crackers (Jake)
- Sweet potato puffs (Jake)
Meals:
- Tuna and cracker packs
- Dry soup mixes
- Cup noodle
- Pasta and sauce
- Oatmeal packs
- Formula (Jake)
In October, when it is time for General Conference again, we will snack on our current foods in our packs and redo them. That way they are always up to date and fresh. We think that is a pretty good idea. :)

Great job guys! We have been working on ours this year and I am starting to feel much better. It's a great reminder reading your blog. We heard of that idea of eating/rotating your kits during each conference and I love it. We are still working on eating our snacks from this past conference. The big back pack is a great idea too!
love love love it! we are heading that direction (or following council) so i love to hear other people are doing it too!
we have a garden, chicks (for eggs later), water, and tons more stuff! not just little cans of soup but the the BIG stuff. (flour, wheat, sugar)..
we think it's a blast & love doing it :o)
That is really super! We are sure proud of you guys - your diligence and example
