Notice the time of this post. This is what it looks like outside my door:
9:00 Return from school and put Jake to bed.
11:00 Go to bed ourselves.
1:30 Wake up with Jake.
3:30 Wake up to the smell of gas.
4:30 Wake up with Jake.
6:20 Wake up to a doorbell.
6:30 Stand on driveway and wait for Firemen.
7:00(ish) BLOG! oh, and wake up with Jake.
I believe 3:30 needs a bit more explanation, and possibly 6:30. I don't know why I woke up at 3:30, but I did. All I said was, "Cam, I smell gas." And, Cameron, being the excellent husband he is got up immediately and checked the stove and heater. When he returned saying all was well, I was unconvinced. So I made him turn off the gas figuring I would call the gas company in the morning.
And, when the doorbell rang at 6:30, it was our neighbor. Apparently they smelled the gas too and thought it was them. When they walked outside, they were quick to notice that we had natural gas spewing out of the pipe by our meter. Now, as you can imagine, that is quite a racket. And to redeem Cameron, he heard the noise while in the garage at 3:30, but he thought it was our watering system, which I think is totally logical.
After calling Southwest Gas, we were told to hang up and call 911. Hence the hunky men flooding my street. We are now waiting for Southwest Gas.
7:10 Southwest Gas has arrived.
Do you know your gas safety tips?
**Edit: Southwest says our regulator was broken, or bent... something. It is fixed and I am going back to sleep.

Okay, time for Cameron's defense. First, they were not all hunky men. I am the only hunky man around here. It was just the fire gear that made them temporarily appear so.
Second, I don't deal with stuff that goes boom, or else I would have handled myself and not woken up the poor hose draggers. That and I didn't like the idea of using pliers against metal (possibly causing a spark and making the house go BIG boom, not to mention me) to close off the valve.
Third, I have a hard time waking up. Ask Corynn. The fact that I had the where-with-all to search around and check the stove, the water heater, and the furnace, and remember to shut off the fuel for the latter two, it is completely amazing.
WOW - so first of all, glad the house didn't go boom or Cameron either.
As for Cameron's defense - I am impressed with his where-with-all and his good thinking about not trying to fix it himself - possibly causing the big boom.
However, the hose draggers in question were almost certainly hunky...I've been to the fire departments in Maricopa and for some reason, we seem to have more than are fair share of "calendar-quality" fire fighters...just saying, they were probably hunky. Sorry Cam...=)
Glad to hear you're all doing good and your home is not high in the sky. Cameron:Wasn't it nice for once to not have to clear the area so it's safe for the Firefighters and EMT's to come in? This time it was reversed......
I think that is so funny! way to early for me though.
I was fun having you and Jake over last night. I love game night.
Glad everything turned out okay! And thanks for the link to the safety tips- it was good to review them :)
