Gardening and Caterpillars

Our garden is growing nicely. Today we harvested our first tomatoes and some greens. I think we waited too long to eat our spinach, but we will try steaming it and see if it tastes any better.

Our Garden
This was several weeks ago, I need to take a recent picture.

Tomatoes, Today
We have been training them to grow mostly flat against the trellis.

First Harvest

And, while cutting spinach leaves, we found two caterpillars. I looked online on how to care for them and Cameron helped me make this habitat to spec.

Meet Itchy
This caterpillar is the bigger of the two.

And Scratchy
He is a bit camera shy. He is well hidden just below the curve of the jar on the leaf.

Your garden looks great! It's so pretty and that's a great idea for tomatoes. It seems to work good! We found a few caterpillars last year in our garden. I was so excited, but later found out that the kind we had were tomato hornworms that were literally devouring our tomato and pepper plants! Hopefully you guys have friendlier caterpillars!

You are a pretty gardener! A girl in my ward says that about mine too.. (I got the stepping stone idea from you though. I will have to post some pics. We have harvested only cilantro so far... it makes delicious salsa!

the garden looks so great! I really want window boxes. I'm obsessed with flowers this year. I wish I had a yard to plant them in.

Your garden is AWESOME!!!! Looks like you are doing "square foot gardening". I love that book!! One year I grew watermellon on a trellis like tomatoes and the stems grew larger to hold the weight of the watermellon - AMAZING!!
