What's Jake Up To?

I feel it is time for a general Jake update. I take all kinds of pictures of him, but then I forget to share them occasionally. Jake is 5 months old! In the beginning, he was grumpy and I was grumpy and tired and on a short fuse. Now, his favorite thing is to show off how good he is when we are out at other people's houses. Anyone can hold him. He hardly fusses and has even been known to take a nap! (At least this week. Sorry Melinda!) Crazy. I know. We still have our moments at home, but for the most part, dare I say it, he is an easy baby. (I realize that I have now totally jinxed myself...)

Jake loves to eat. Man. That kid eats 6 ounces of formula every 3 hours. From when he wakes up around 6 until when he goes to bed around 7, sometimes 8, he has 5 bottles. If I don't give him 5, he lets me know. Even if he ate an hour before I try to put him down for the night, He wants another bottle. Now, I can fake him out by giving him only 4 ounces, but not stopping a 6 ounce bottle at 4. He waits for that air, then he decides he can now go to sleep peacefully.

He has also has tried a few solid foods. He loves sweet potato. Hey, who doesn't? He also likes avocado, but not as much as the sweet potato. He hasn't ever really been a huge fan of the rice cereal (you know, in the whole month he has been exposed to it!), but if I mix in the sweet potato he will eat probably 1/4 cup of food, I would say, before getting fussy and turning his head away. I have no idea where he puts it though because he is a skinny little thing!

And, sleeping. As mentioned before, as long as he gets his 5 bottles, he is golden. He sleeps from some time after 7 to some time around 6. He averages about 10-11 hours every night. If he only sleeps 10, when he wakes up in the morning, we give him a bottle while he cuddles in our bed. Then when the air-sucking noise the empty bottle makes wakes us up, we move him to his swing where he will typically sleep for another 1-2 hours. Whoo hoo! I am one happy mommy.

Speaking of his swing. While Jake is a great night sleeper, he is not so much of a napper... unless mobile. We are currently changing the batteries in his big swing once a week. That's 6$ a week so that my baby will take a nap. We have tried letting him fall asleep and then stopping the swing, or moving him with no luck. So, until he outgrows the swing, he will be sleeping in it during the day. (You would too if it meant a 3 hour nap!)

We are tearfully saying goodbye to some of our favorite outfits as Jake outgrows them. The stack in his closet of clothes to be sorted and put away for another baby someday is getting so big. Jake is in 3-6 month stuff now. Some 0-3 month or Carters 3 month stuff can fit him, but he is really just too tall for it. He is pulling the snaps close to their limits. It is so sad to see. I suppose it just means new fashion adventures and favorites to be made in the new size.

Now on to the pictures:

Fish Hooked
(Look! He is sleeping in his bouncy chair, not his swing! A small battle was won that day!)
Yummy Mess
All Clean!
(Jake stretches his arms and legs like this a lot. Is that a typical baby thing?)
Smilin' in the Air
Cameron was playing Superman with him.
Playin'
He has figured out that if he pulls this fish, it plays music.
What up?
This is how we sometimes find Jake hanging out in his swing.

I'm glad Jake is getting easier. Those first few weeks must be tough. I would be really grumpy if I got woken up every few hours. I'm looking forward to seeing you guys soon!

He is so cute and getting so big. How time flys. Next time you are in Chandler I would love for you to stop by so I can see him because you know it he will be 18.

He's so cute! Don't worry - my daughter slept in her swing for naps (and sometimes during the night) until she was 10 months old! I was lucky that she was small and still fit in it! We also spent a small fortune on batteries. I have advised all moms since then to invest in one of the swings that can be plugged into the wall!

What cute pictures! I'm only sorry I seem to have such a bad influence on his sleep!
